Community housing

The community housing sector in each state and territory has developed under different conditions and over different timeframes. Each jurisdiction has adopted different policy and funding approaches, resulting in sectors that are different in size and structure.

Not with standing this, a National Industry Development Framework for community housing has been developed which takes a national approach to industry capacity and provides high-level guidance for the development of locally appropriate jurisdictional strategies. The framework is aligned with, but not part of, the NRSCH.

The framework is aimed at providers that have the potential to contribute to the growth and development of community housing. It prioritises five key areas of development that are critical to a strong community housing industry:

  1. Governance, risk management and strategic planning
  2. Construction and development
  3. Finance
  4. Regulation – meeting requirements of the National Regulatory Code
  5. Workforce development.
