The NRSCH has been established through consistent state and territory legislation, referred to as the National Law. It was first enacted in the host jurisdiction, New South Wales, and then either applied or adopted thereafter by other jurisdictions. The National Regulatory Code sets out the performance requirements that registered community housing providers must comply with in providing community housing under the National Law. The Code forms part of the National Law.
The NRSCH Charter sets out the overarching, vision, objectives, regulatory principles and philosophy of the NRSCH.
