Information for tenants of community housing

The NRSCH seeks to improve tenant outcomes and protect vulnerable tenants by overseeing the delivery of fair, transparent and responsive housing assistance to tenants and applicants of registered community housing providers.

Tenant and housing services is one of seven performance areas for housing providers under the National Regulatory Code. This means you can expect a registered provider to be fair, transparent and responsive in:

  • determining and managing eligibility, allocation, and termination of housing assistance
  • determining and managing rents
  • setting and meeting relevant housing service standards
  • supporting tenant and resident engagement
  • facilitating access to support for social housing applicants and tenants with complex needs
  • managing and addressing complaints and appeals relating to the provision of housing services
  • maintaining satisfaction with the overall quality of housing services.

Rights of tenants

The National Law does not authorise:

  • a registered community housing provider to provide information to a Registrar that identifies an individual who occupies a residential premises
  • a Registrar to enter residential premises occupied by an individual unless that individual consents.
